Czesław Bartkowski (b. April 19th, 1943 in Łódź) – Polish jazz drummer; educator

His official debut was in 1960, as the drummer for Jerzy Pakulski

He has played in numerous outstanding trios, including with Tomasz Stańko and Adam Makowicz, Wojciech Karolak and Tomasz Szukalski, Artur Dutkiewicz and Andrzej Cudzich, Marek Bliziński and Zbigniew Wegehaupt, and with Andrzej Jagodziński and Adam Cegielski.

He has also worked with Janusz Muniak, Jarosław Śmietana, the Polish Radio Jazz Studio, Jan Ptaszyn Wróblewski’s group Mainstream, and Sławomir Kulpowicz’s InFormation.

He took part in recordings by outstanding Polish vocalists Ewa Bem, Urszula Dudziak and Stanisław Sojka, and has also performed with foreign musicians such as Freddie Hubbard.

He has performed in every part of the world, participating in the largest jazz festivals (India, USA, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and all Europe.

In 1992, he began working with Andrzej Jagodziński, with whom he continues to play, as a co-creator of the spectacularly successful jazz arrangements of the music of Fryderyk Chopin, as interpreted by the Andrzej Jagodziński Trio, which has been performing for 19 years on every continent of the world.

As of 1992, he is also an instructor for the percussion class and director of the Jazz Department in the F. Chopin Public Music Schools Group and Jazz Study in Warsaw.

He is an honorary member of the "Tauranga Jazz Festival Society" and "The New Orleans Clubs New Castle on Tyne England".
