Based in Dublin, Barry Donohue is quickly establishing himself as one of the most prolific and in-demand double bassist and electric bassist Ireland has to offer.
Barry has performed and recorded with some of Ireland's biggest names, including Mary Coughlan, Sean Carpio, Matthew Halpin, Francesco Turrisi, Chris Guilfoyle (Umbra), Gemma Sugrue, Loah, Fehdah, Greg Felton, Michael Buckley, and Nigel Mooney. Of late, Barry has been building a reputation internationally by performing with the likes of Nelson Veras, Theo Bleckmann, Tal Cohen, Ingo Hipp (Aerie), Nils Wogram, Michael Arbenz, Pablo Held, and Marie Kruttli.
Barry has studied with renowned French classical double bassist Thierry Barbé, contemporary jazz guitarist Nelson Veras, composer/saxophonist Stephane Payen, composer/trombonist Nils Wogram, electric bassist Matthew Garrison, and saxophonist/composer Steve Coleman.
It is with heart-felt gratitude and pride that Barry can say he is supported by Music Network, the Arts Council of Ireland, and Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. Barry has received several awards from the afore-mentioned organisation.
