Dominik Wania was born on November 24th, 1981 in Sanok, Poland and began the study of piano at age three. Graduated from the Academy of Music in Krakow, Poland in 2005 where he was an honors music student studying classical piano performance. In 2006 he was awarded The Helena Foundation Presidential Scholarship at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where he pursued Master of Music degree in Jazz Performance. While at NEC Dominik Wania studied with Danilo Perez, Jerry Bergonzi, George Garzone and Frank Carlberg. He also was a member of one of NEC’s prestigious Honors Ensembles.
Currently he is residing in Krakow, Poland and is involved with significant jazz projects including: Tomasz Stanko Quartet, Maciej Obara International, Jacek Kochan & Co., Piotr Baron Quintet, Noise Trio, New Bone. He also had a great pleasure to work with many other prominent musicians: Zbigniew Namysłowski, Piotr Wojtasik, Janusz Muniak, Bronisław Suchanek, Maciej Sikała, Zbigniew Wegehaupt, Marek Bałata, Walk Away, David Liebman, Marcus Miller, Eric Marienthal. Nguyen Le, Marylin Mazur, Joey Baron, Lee Konitz, George Garzone, Gary Thomas, Don Byron, Franz Hautzinger, Eddie Henderson to name a few.
He is DMA faculty member at Academy of Music in Krakow, Poland at the Department of Jazz and Contemporary Music as well as Institute of Jazz at Academy of Music in Katowice, Poland and Cracow School of Jazz.
In June 2013 he released a debut album of his piano trio entitled „Ravel” (Maurice Ravel’s „Miroirs” arranged for jazz trio). This album has been awarded by Polish Cultural Television „Gwarancje Kultury 2014“ and two Annual Polish Music Awards „Fryderyk“ 2014 as The Album of the Year and Artist Debut.
In November, 2015 he began cooperation with one of the greatest film music composers Zbigniew Preisner and took part in the recording of The New Carols " In the search for ways" . The album was certified " Platinum Record ".
In January 2017r. he participated in the recording of the band Maciej Obara Quartet, completed for the most prestigious ECM label.
