Born in Santiago de Cuba, with a legacy of his own blood musical background, Maikel Vistel is involved into the roots of their land to combine a contemporary, warm and personal sound. Maikel has had great masters of jazz like Mark Turner, George Garzon, Joe Lovano, Greg Osby, Roman Filiú, David Virelles, Aruan Ortiz, Gary Thomas, Steve Coleman, among others. Maikel moves to Madrid with his brother and partner, the trumpeter Jorge Vistel. Europe is where they create your first project together called Vistel Brothers. With great success and recognition the group has performed in the most important jazz clubs and festivals in Spain: Vitoria, Castelldefels, Menorca,
Salamanca, Zamora, Segovia and 365 Jazz Bilbao.
In 2015, after many years of searching and research in traditional musical styles and contemporary, Maikel recorded his first solo album called steps. This comes after the need to translate the style that defines and identifies as an artist, in each of its compositions. STEPS has been chosen by renowned saxophonist Greg Osby, to form part of his record label in NY, Inner Circle Music.
