Composer, improviser, author of film and theater music. One of the most outstanding and most versatile Polish double bass players. Together with his brother, drummer Bartłomiej Oles, he runs a unique project OLEŚ DUO, in which artists redefine traditionally assigned roles to their instruments. OLEŚ DUO recorded among others for the British BBC.
Marcin Oleś is the first Polish jazz musician who made a record for the legendary Swiss record label HAT HUT Records (album "Alchemia", trio with Bartłomiej Oles and German clarinet virtuoso, Theo Jörgensmann). Over the years, he built a rich discography, performed and recorded among others with Tomasz Stańko, David Murray, Erik Friedlander, Kenny Werner and Matthew Shipp. He also plays ethno music, performs modern classical repertoire or Sephardic music. Student and successor of one of the greatest living virtuoso of the double bass, Francois Rabbath. In 2014, the album "SEFARDIX" of his trio with Bartłomiej Oles and vocalist Jorgos Skolias was chosen by the Polish Radio as the Folk Phonogram of the Year. OLES DUO was recognized as Jazz Performer of the Year 2016 by Radio Jazz and Jazz Press.
